NOPT online - National Organisation for Practice Teaching

Frequently Asked Questions

 Who joins NOPT?

Membership of the organisation is as an individual. Membership is open to all of those who  are involved in practice teaching and with an interest in social work education. A member is  entitled to one vote in the election of the Committee. The group comprises professionals  engaged in different aspects of practice teaching and practice learning. The organisation  subscribes to the belief that practice teaching plays a major part in meeting the changing  needs of social  work education and training.

 How is NOPT organised?

The NOPT constitution requires the organisation to set up a management committee which  seeks membership through a  democratic electoral process.

There are currently 15 committee members and an administrator.

 How much does it cost?

The current membership fees are £30 pa, for full voting membership, reduced workshop fees  and all mailings; OR £53 pa for the above, plus one year’s subscription to Social Work  Education. The year runs from 1st January to 31st December. An application for  membership should be in writing on the appropriate form, (obtainable from the  administrator or committee  member).

As a voluntary organisation, NOPT is solely financed through individual subscriptions and  learning activities.

 What about associate membership?

Regional, sub-regional and local groups of practice teachers will be entitled to associate  membership of NOPT, through an application to the organisation for this status. The  associate group should forward it’s title and the name and address of a link person to the  NOPT Administrator by 30th June, in each year. The link person should hold individual  membership of NOPT.

Associate groups will be entitled to:

The use of the phrase "Associated with the National  Organisation for Practice Teaching" in  their title.

The services of management committee members to speak at and support group events,  subject to the negotiation of time, travel and  resources.

Representation: The opportunity to nominate a member to the management committee.

Concessionary membership rate for one member of the group, in addition to the link  member, at the annual workshop and other  events.
