(NB: only a selection of the recommendations have been included here. For full details of the 15 main recommendations and further details in respect of each recommendation, please see the SWTF final report)

Some of the key recommendations    are: The establishment of an independent National College of Social Work, developed and led by social workers.

The creation of an assessed and supported year in employment as the final stage of becoming a social worker (including developing a licence to practice system for social workers) - The assessed year in employment to be sucessfully completed before a full licence to practice could be granted.

The development of clear national standards for the support social workers should expect from their employer and national requirements for the supervision of social workers.

The creation of a single, national career structure for social work alongside a national framework for the CPD of social workers.

A strengthening of the calibre of entrants to social work education and training and an ovehaul of the content and delivery of social work education.

New arrangements for ensuring provision of high quality practice placements which are properley supervised and assessed, for all social work students - A specific suggestion that the number of placement days be reduced from 200 days to no less than 130 days.

Practice placements - the development of these arrangments to be overseen by the Social Work Reform Board. A date should be set for ensuring that all those responsible for the assessment and supervision of a student at final placement hold a current practice teaching award or have demonstrated their competence against agreed national standards. These standards to be determined by the SWRB.
